Research is vital to any planning process. In order to research bed and breakfasts, a number of research institutions have studied this sector of the accommodation industry, but we still lack a complete overview of its scope in Australia.

If you are seeking information about setting up an accommodation business, HAA publishes a Guide for new operators. This includes information about the tourism industry at the federal and state levels; mandatory licensing information and a section on equipping accommodation, marketing and managing the business including setting tariffs, writing a marketing plan and wording a cancellation policy. You can purchase the Guide here.

If you wish to research occupancy levels in your locality, your regional or local tourism organisation or accredited Visitor Information Centre may be able to assist.
